The contract also includes a 12-year operation and maintenance services agreement.
Under the contract, Gamesa will supply ten G114-2.0 MW turbines in mid-2014, while the project is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2014. The power generated from the wind project will be sold to DTE Energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
Gamesa stated that the contract represents a milestone in its sales and product strategy as it marks the debut of its new G114-2.0 MW turbine, which is designed to produce more power at lower cost at low wind speed sites in the US market.
According to Gamesa, its G114-2.0 MW wind turbine has maximum performance at medium-low wind speeds. With a rotor spanning 114me, the new turbine’s sweep area is 38% greater than that of the G97-2.0 MW, while it produces 20% more energy a year.
Gamesa chief technology officer Jose Malumbres said, "The G114-2.0 MW is the most competitive turbine in its segment anywhere in the world. Its development represents a significant evolution of the 2MW and 2.5MW turbines that will produce a major game changer in terms of significantly lowering the cost of generating power from wind."
