The contract will require Gamesa to supply 56 units of its G114-2.0 MW turbines, which are said to be among the company’s most competitive models to date.

Gamesa said that the G114-2.0MW turbines are designed to harness wind power at low and medium wind speed sites.

The company has already agreed to supply 2000MW of these wind turbines to wind power projects in Sweden, Uruguay, the US, Thailand, Poland and Brazil.

The recent project is the company’s third wind farm being developed in Chile, where it already completed the development of first and second phases of the San Pedro wind complex on Chiloé island which has a total installed capacity of 137MW.

Figures released by consultancy BTM show that Chile had installed around 821MW of clean energy capacity at the end of 2014.

The country is anticipated to install an additional capacity of around 400MW every year until 2025 to cater to the growing electricity needs.

Earlier this month, Gamesa was awarded a contract by Votorantim Energia to supply, install and commission 98 units of its G114-2.0MW to a Brazilian wind farm.

The turbines will be equipped with Gamesa’s MaxPower technology, which will increases the turbines’ nominal capacity from 2MW to 2.1MW, thereby boosting output from 196MW to 205.8MW.
