Fuji Heavy President Ikuo Mori, who was speaking at the Tokyo Motor Show, didn’t say whether the hybrid model would be developed jointly with the company’s major shareholder Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), or whether it would be based on the concept hybrid model displayed at the motor show.
Separately, Daihatsu Motor Company (Daihatsu), a small car-making unit of Toyota, also said it would introduce a more fuel-efficient mini-vehicle model in three years. Daihatsu President Teruyuki Minoura said that the new model’s low fuel consumption would be made possible by its light weight.
Minoura added that, although the company isn’t employing a gasoline-electric hybrid system, it is making progress in its development with partners of a fuel- cell motor system.
