Fuel cells are one of the most promising technologies for meeting the USA’s energy needs well into the new century, according to a new publication from Business Communications Company.

Called RDFC-00 – Fuel Cell Industry Review, the publication says that with commercialisation of most fuel cell technologies rapidly falling into place, the fuel cell market – estimated at $218 million in 2000 – is expected to increase to an estimated $2.4 billion by 2005.

It points out that unlike power plants that use conventional technologies, fuel cell plants that generate electricity and usable heat can be built in a range of sizes – from 200KW units suitable for powering commercial buildings to 100MW plants that can add baseload capacity to utility power plants.
