The Prime Minister of Loas, Bounnhang Vorachit, and his Thai counterpart, Thaksin Shinawatra, have jointly laid the foundation stone of the 1070MW Nam Theun II hydroelectric power project.
The ceremony took place at the construction site of the project, situated in the Gnoumalat district of Loa’s central Khammouane province, roughly 250km southeast of capital city Vientiane.
The US$1.25B Nam Theun II is expected to begin operating in 2010.
