Engineering contractor Foster Wheeler's global power group has been awarded a contract by Entergy Louisiana for the design and supply of two circulating fluidized-bed steam generators.

The two circulating fluidized-beds (CFBs) and associated auxiliary equipment will be a part of the Little Gypsy-3 repowering project located in Montz, Louisiana.

Foster Wheeler has received a full notice to proceed on this contract. The Little Gypsy-3, which will be designed to deliver a baseload of 538MWe, will have the capability of using petroleum coke as well as coal to produce electricity. Commercial operation of the plant is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

Gary Nedelka, president and CEO of Foster Wheeler North America, said: We are pleased to be selected by Entergy Louisiana to play a part in this important project. A fundamental benefit of CFB technology is its naturally low emission level of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide, a benefit that is especially dramatic when compared to the older equipment that is replaced in a repowering project such as Little Gypsy-3.
