Switzerland-based multinational conglomerate Foster Wheeler announced that its global engineering and construction group has entered into an engineering and services contract with Valero Energy.

Under the contract, Foster Wheeler subsidiary will be responsible for the home office engineering and support services for new development and modification projects at Valero’s Pembroke Refinery and other facilities in the UK.

Value of the contract was not disclosed.

Foster Wheeler will also provide other support services, including project control and cost estimation.

Foster Wheeler president and chief operating officer Umberto della Sala said the company is well aware of the refinery and has carried out projects for the facility since 1980s.

"The combination of our knowledge of the refinery, together with our in-depth refining expertise, particularly in revamp projects, and our flexible and responsive team, give us an excellent opportunity to build a strong, long-term relationship in the UK with Valero," Sala added.

Valero acquired the Pembroke refinery from Chevron in 2011.

The refinery located in southwest Wales, UK, has a production capacity of 270,000 barrels per day (bpd), including 220,000bpd of crude and 50,000bpd of other feedstocks.
