Fluor Corporation is to build a new combined cycle power plant in Virginia, USA, after being given notice to proceed by its client, Dominion Virginia Power.

The 1600 MW Greensville County power plant will be built in southern Virginia and is expected to enter commercial operation in 2018. The power plant received an air permit – the last regulatory permit required – from state regulators in June.

Fluor was awarded the contract by Dominion in April 2015 on a limited notice-to-proceed basis. The $1.3 billion natural gas-fired facility will meet the energy needs of 400 000 customers, Dominion said.
