UK energy regulator Ofgem has shortlisted five bidders in a tender for a transmission link connecting Dong Energy’s Burbo Bank wind farm extension with the mainland grid.

Dong announced earlier in September that it had successfully installed the first of 32 turbines at the 258 MW wind farm in the Irish Sea. The wind farm will use MHI Vestas 8 MW offshore wind turbines – the largest in the world.

The winner of the transmission tender will own and operate the link for 20 years. The five shortlisted bidders are: Balfour Beatty Equitix Consortium; Dalmore Capital Limited; Diamond Transmission Partners; Mari Energy Transmission; and Transmission Capital Partners.

Ofgem expects to announce the preferred bidder in April 2017.
