The companies filed letters of intent with the state Public Service Commission; however, these letters do not imply that the wind farms will be constructed.
If the projects materialize, the state’s wind energy capacity would grow by 41%. These projects would cost about $1bn to complete.
The clean energy industry went into a slump as the law on production tax credit of 2.2 cents per kilowatt-hour of wind energy was set to end on 2012. However, the extension of the law late last year has renewed interest among companies.
Wind energy contributes 26% of the state’s total electricity generating capacity of about 6,436MW.
