Commercial fishing companies-backed energy consortium Fishermen's Energy of New Jersey has submitted a proposal to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to build a two-phase offshore wind energy facility.

Filed in response to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’s (NJ BPU) solicitation for proposals to develop offshore wind energy facilities, the proposal by Fishermen’s Energy calls for the construction of a total of 350MW of electricity from 74 wind turbines.

Fisherman’s Energy (Fern) noted that these turbines are designed to serve industrial, commercial, and institutional customers in south New Jersey.

The consortium’s plan calls for phase-one construction of an array of only eight turbines three miles off Atlantic City, providing total capacity of approximately 20MW.

Phase-two of the project will be further offshore, about six to seven miles, and will produce approximately 330MW of power.
