The power project consists of 30 units of 2.3MW Siemens wind turbine and is located on Kamehameha Schools’ Kawailoa Plantation lands on Oahu’s North Shore.
A subsidiary of First Wind closed a $220m non-recourse construction and term loan and $16m in letters of credit for the Kawailoa project.
Early construction work began in December of 2011 and the turbine delivery and installation is expected to commence in late 2012.
RMT is the general contractor working on the Kawailoa power project, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The facility will have the capacity to produce enough clean, renewable wind energy to power the equivalent of about 14,500 homes on the island.
In December 2011, the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission approved a power purchase agreement between Kawailoa Wind and the Hawaiian Electric Company.
