The project is being developed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission that seeks to have 20,000MW installed solar capacity by 2022.
Green Infra, the project developer, has appointed US-based juwi Solar as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
First Solar India country head Sujoy Ghosh commented that large-scale solar PV plants will provide economies of scale and reduce the cost of solar electricity for the masses.
"Today, India is on the path of becoming one of the leading nations in the solar energy sector, and we are excited to be a part of this journey. Our latest project with Green Infra is a significant project under the National Solar Mission that will help India meet its energy security needs," added Ghosh.
The project is expected to produce 46 million kWh of electricity per annum and help reduce carbon emissions by 44,000mt.
