MidAmerican Solar owns the solar photovoltaic (PV) project and First Solar will construct, operate and maintain it.
The Topaz project, which is located in San Luis Obispo County, will use First Solar’s advanced thin-film PV modules.
Under a 25-year power purchase agreement, electricity produced by the project will be sold to Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
The solar project will provide enough energy to power around 160,000 homes in the region, upon completion in 2015.
Electricity generated by project will displace around 377,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.
Construction on the project began in November 2011.
The solar power project will generate nearly $417m in local economic impact, the majority of which will be generated during construction.
