Technology

Siemens KWU has announced that it has successfully started factory testing of advanced components for the next generation gas turbines at its full-load test facility in Berlin. The advanced components have been incorporated into the technology platform of the V84.3A gas turbine.

First firing was achieved on 1 December, 1998. The new features will allow higher firing temperatures and thus an increase in efficiency and output. The most important innovations relate to burner technology and compressor and turbine blading.

The test rig is unique in that, due to its water brake, it is the only large-scale test facility in the world to allow off-grid full speed/full load operation up to 220 MWe at 50 Hz, 60 Hz and overspeed.
