Mr Kurth stated that a definite balance between the need for a secure electricity supply, investments and use of private capital can be achieved without state participation.
He said that the country’s Federal Network Agency has tried to attract private capital in the country’s infrastructure and this helped raise efficiency.
German utility major E.ON has announced plans to dispose off its power grid in Germany, under pressure from the European Commission. Mr Kurth noted that this decision was opposed by political parties in the country, who were against the idea of the state interfering in the energy sector.
The Federal Network Agency will reportedly ensure that the sale of E.ON’s power grid assets will provide a stable supply of electricity and also see to it that the potential buyer of the assets will not be able to take undue advantage of the monopolistic situation.
