In June 2008 farmers of Bean Lake could not capitalize on the extremely high corn prices (due to demand for ethanol), as their crops were damaged by floods caused by KCP&L’s plant.
Grant Davis attorney representing the farmers stated that KCP&L pledged to farmers that they would repair the levee following the breach that occurred in 2007. However the flooding incident occurred again in 2008.
Davis said “They absolutely knew about it. They knew about it. The problem from decades ago when they’ve encountered the same problem. From St.Louis to Sioux Falls, it didn’t come out of it’s banks anywhere except right here at the Iatan Power Plant that’s when I knew we had a big problem.”
KCP&L has not issued any statement on the pending litigation.
