Fairchild Semiconductor International, Inc. (Fairchild) has introduced a new energy-efficient series of gate drivers, FAN708x series. The new drivers enhance power consumption, noise immunity and transient voltage performance in the automotive applications. The new FAN708x series can increase the fuel efficiency by allowing engineers to develop more accurate and precise fuel injection control systems under all operating conditions.

The new gate drivers drive MOSFETs and IGBTs in the high side and bridge driver applications like direct fuel injection systems and motor controls. These drivers provide less than half the quiescent power consumption compared to the alternate devices on the market, 100µA versus 240µA quiescent current, enabling designers to optimize systems and broaden the operating range. These new products provide high transient voltage performance, double that of alternate products. This makes the system design more immune to the noise issues; enabling reliable, precise control of MOSFETs or IGBTs even under the harshest operating conditions.

The new FAN708x products meet high reliability needs and are qualified according to AEC-Q100 standard. These new gate drivers are designed to handle the negative voltage swings, making them more resilient to the driver stage latch up. The new FAN708x series of products are highly integrated gate drivers, removing between ten and fifteen discrete components and offering automotive designers a 40% space savings.

Fairchild’s energy-efficient solutions for automotive electronics market provide new capabilities in the advanced process and packaging technologies, and also the ability to integrate power analog, power discrete and the optoelectronic functionality into new packaging. The company provides the comprehensive portfolio of products, from 1W to >1200W, to maximize energy efficiency in automotive electronic applications like power management, body control, motor control, ignition and engine management, and electric and hybrid electric vehicle systems.
