An additional UK£22M (US$35M) in 2003-04 on capital projects and studies for flood and coastal defence has been announced by UK flood and coastal defence minister Elliot Morley.

This is over and above the UK£185M (US$294.5M) increase in government spending on flood and coastal defence over the period 2003-04 to 2005-06 announced in the Government’s spending review of July 2002.

The increase follows a detailed assessment of the Departmental funds available in the coming financial review.
