Gaborone, Botswana-based Western Power Corridor Company (Westcor) has called for expressions of interest from various disciplines for services required to construct the 4300MW Inga Three hydro project.
Inga Three is to be developed by five utilities in Angola, Botswana, Congo, Namibia, and South Africa. Westcor is a joint venture of Nampower (Namibia), Eskom (South Africa), ENE – Empresa Nacional De Electricidade (Angola), SNEL of Congo and the Botswana Power Corporation. Each utility owns 20% of the share capital of Westcor. The pre-feasibility study for the baseload hydro station, was completed late last year. It is expected that construction would start in about 18 to 24 months. Westcor has called for expressions of interest for the appointment of legal advisors, recruitment of advisors, consultants and front line office operation staff to be involved in what would be the largest single power station in Africa. The organisation is also calling for expressions of interest for power system economic advisors, financial advisors, engineering consultants, environmental impact assessment contractors, risk management advisors, project managers and quantity surveyors, as well as full time employment, to be taken up in Gabarone in Botswana.
