The project is located on 250 acres of land in Kuhana and Shajahanpur villages in Jalaun district.
It is expected to generate 85 million units of power annually and would be linked to 132 KV Sarsela-Kalpi substations.
The power plant is established under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Power Policy 2013 to boost renewable energy in the state.
Essel Infraprojects CEO and director Ashok Agarwal said: "It is a Rs 450-crore [Rs4.5bn]solar power project and will play a pivotal role in reducing carbon footprints by 45,000 tonnes. It will help light 25000 houses in the state.
"Taking the lead, Essel Group intends to facilitate India’s green energy requirement by delivering sustainable energy and creating value to empower people, communities and businesses."
Essel Infraprojects has also commissioned solar projects in Osmanabad in Maharashtra and Bijapur in Karnataka.
The company will also set up a solar project in Tamil Nadu and has also won contract to establish solar PV project in Mansa, Punjab.
Essel Group has also partnered with Golden Concord Holdings to set up an investment consortium of $2bn to create 5MW solar power module manufacturing.
The consortium is in discussions with the Rajasthan state government to develop solar parks in Bikaner and Jaisalmer worth Rs. 40bn.
