Essel and Chinese company JA Solar are planning to form a 50-50 joint venture to build a solar module manufacturing facility at Sri City industrial park in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of $200m.

The facility is expected to produce 500MW of solar modules.

Essel Infra projects CEO Ashok Agarwal told Business Standard that the company has applied for a land parcel in Sri City for the purpose.

In May, Essel and JA signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly launch a solar cell and module manufacturing plant in India.

In June, Essel signed an agreement with the Rajasthan Government for the development of 5GW solar project in the region.

Additional deals have also been signed by the company with five Germany-based firms with an aim to develop green energy projects and smart cities in the country.

Separately, Essel and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) have signed a memorandum of understandings to set up a technical consortium, to develop smart city projects.
