The core will be transported to Rio for further analysis. Oil shows were recorded in limestone cuttings while drilling from 1,048m. The oil stained cuttings produced an immediate yellow cut indicative of live oil.
First reservoir interval high to prognosis
The cored interval from 1,056m is interpreted as the upper most carbonate reservoir target for the well which is known as the Oiterinhas Member of the Muribeca Formation. In the Tatu-1 discovery well at Block 430, the upper most oil shows were recorded at approximately 1,120m in the Oiterinhos. The second reservoir target in the Muribeca Formation is the Ibura Member which is expected to be encountered during drilling over the next week.
Eromanga Hydrocarbons is a 40% participant in Block 430. UBX, the operator, holds 60%.
Tatu 2 is the first appraisal well on block 430 following the Gavea joint venture’s discovery at Tatu 1 which tested oil in two zones within fractured limestone of the Muribeca Fm and registered over 50m of oil shows within fractured basement. Tatu 2 is up-dip on the Block 430 structure which has been interpreted from 3D seismic. The well is expected to have a terminal depth of 1,240m, but may extend to 1,300 if encouraging oil shows are encountered in fractured basement.
