The company is seeking expressions of interest from companies that can help to meet its renewable energy needs.

Renewable energy sources such as roof top solar already contribute around 10% of the electricity into Ergon’s network throughout regional Queensland.

Ergon said it has received strong interest from renewable energy project developers in regional Queensland in the past. It is now urging developers to put forward the projects for consideration.

The company has been working with communities across regional Queensland to examine the development of renewable energy sources for lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Projects already supported by Ergon include 400Kw Fraser Coast solar farm, 12MW Windy Hill wind farm, and several other hydro developments.

The Government of Queensland owns Ergon Energy, which distributes electricity to about 700,000 customers across the state, excluding South East Queensland.

The government is planning to generate 50% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
