With this acquisition, Ergon Ethanol has become the sole owner of the plant, which was established as a joint venture between the company and Bunge in 2007.
The plant was formerly called as Bunge-Ergon Vicksburg and now has changed its name to Ergon BioFuels, effective December 31, 2013.
The plant, with an annual capacity of 54-million gallons, was claimed to be one of the largest ethanol producers in the southeastern US until operations were halted in December 2012.
Ergon Refining and Marketing division president Don Davis said the latest transaction allows the company to look at alternative feedstocks, as well as how the plant may be used for products beyond traditional ethanol production.
"In addition, we feel the Ergon BioFuels facility will be synergistic with nearby Ergon Refining, Inc.’s opportunities for an expanded product base," added Davis.
