Singapore-based Equis Energy has announced plans to invest A$400 million in the construction of two large-scale solar farms in Australia.

Equis, an independent renewable energy developer, says it will build solar energy capacity totalling 200 MW in South Australia and Queensland. It has also secured additional land rights for 2000 ha, allowing for an additional 1000 MW of solar capacity to be constructed in the near term.

In South Australia, Equis has signed a power purchased agreement with Snowy Hydro for a 100 MW solar farm to be located near Tailem Bend.

The Tailem Bend project will be built alongside a 28.8 MW diesel-fired power station owned by Snowy Hydro. Construction is due to start in 2017, Equis said.

Equis has also secured development approval for a 100 MW solar project in Collinsville North, Queensland. Construction of this project will also commence in 2017.

“The Tailem Bend Solar Project and Collinsville North Solar Project will be two of Australia’s lowest cost solar generation projects and will contribute low cost solar power and new jobs into regional communities. Both plants will also be designed as “battery-storage ready” further enhancing their long term attractiveness as stable, low cost sources of power,” said David Russell, Equis Group CEO.
