According to the company, the new plant, which has an installed capacity of 1,600MW, could produce power for over two million homes, bringing employment opportunities for local people during construction and beyond.
Earlier, there was a coal-fired plant in the same site and the plant closed in 2003. To produce power in a cleaner way, the new gas-fired power station will use latest combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology.
Andy Burnett, project development manager of E.ON, told to thisisnottingham.co.uk: “We’re looking to secure the option to develop a gas-fired power station at High Marnham that will help ensure we can keep the lights on for our homes and businesses in the most secure and affordable way, while also helping to tackle the global threat of climate change.”
As reported, the company has submitted a statement outlining its plans to Notts County Council and other statutory consultees. A full planning application is expected to be lodged in early 2010.
