The CHP plant, Oresundsverket, has an efficiency of 58%. The plant at full co-generation, including both electricity and heat has an efficiency of 90%.
The project is a technologically advanced 440MW gas-fired CHP plant. The plant is expected to produce approximately 3 billion kWh of electricity for the southern Swedish market, and approximately 1 billion kWh of district heat for Malmo, meeting 40% of the city’s heating needs.
The gas-fired power plant’s electricity generation would replace the older coal-fired generation in the energy system in northern Europe, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions by one million tons per year.
The total investment for the CHP project was approximately EUR300m.
