Apart from refining the cable route width, the work will also enable the company to plan construction in more detail by providing information on the ground conditions, including soil depths, and identify archaeologically sensitive areas to plan the most appropriate monitoring and protection during construction.
The data will be used to advise the best materials and construction methods, when the cable is laid, subject to the wind farm receiving approval, which is expected in summer 2014.
E.ON project development manager Chris Tomlinson said, ”Weather permitting, the work will begin at the end of October and is expected to take six to eight weeks.”
If constructed, the wind farm may feature up to 175 turbines and a 700MW capacity, which could generate enough electricity to supply the equivalent of around 450,000 homes.
