The project features 112 GE 1.79-100 turbines which can generate clean electricity required to power approximately 64,000 homes.

Earlier, Digital Reality, a provider of data centers, agreed to purchase 400,000 megawatt hours annually from the Colbeck's Corner wind farm, under a long-term contract.

Digital Realty sustainability director Aaron Binkley earlier said: "Digital Realty is committed to sustainable and environmentally responsible business practices.

“We recognize the importance of addressing our customers' growing demand for renewably powered data centers. This commitment extends our sustainability program, complementing our Clean Start(SM) Program, our green building certification track record and our energy efficiency programs."

E.ON’s 20th wind farm in the US, the Colbeck's Corner project is expected to generate more than $32m in property taxes for Carson and Gray counties over its 25-year operational life.

The company said that the budget for Colbeck’s Corner facility is 40% lower compared to that of the Pyron wind farm, which was built by the company in 2009.

In May 2016, E.ON Climate & Renewables North America (EC&RNA) has completed tax equity financing with Allianz Capital Partners and State Street for the Colbeck's Corner project.

In exchange, Allianz Capital Partners and State Street will get a partial stake in the project.

Since 2005, E.ON has added more than 3GW of wind projects to its portfolio in the US.
