Another German firm RWE, which holds remaining 50% share in the project, also agreed to sell the stake to Hitachi. The transaction is likely to close by the end of November 2012.
E.ON and RWE formed the Horizon Nuclear Power joint venture in 2009 to pursue the construction of new nuclear power plants in the UK.
Horizon Nuclear Power COO Alan Raymant said this announcement marks the opening of a new chapter for this nuclear project.
"We’re very grateful to RWE npower and E.ON UK for the creation and development of Horizon to this point," Raymant added.
"We will now focus on fully remobilising the business, and working with our new owners to bring forward our plans as soon as possible.
"I’d particularly like to thank the communities at Wylfa and Oldbury for their continued support, along with our first-rate team at Horizon which has remained committed over recent months. As always we will work closely with them as we progress our plans."
Raymant noted that these projects would boost the UK’s infrastructure sector and contribute to sustainable economic developments at local level in the coming decades.
