The project received the certificate of site compatibility from the commission, which will allow enXco to begin construction once it settles a dispute with Xcel.

The project will comprise 100 wind turbines and extending over 18 square miles southeast of Kulm, on the eastern edge of McIntosh County and western edge of Dickey County.

Upon completion, the plant is expected to generate renewable energy, which is sufficient to power approximately 43,500 homes.

enXco President and CEO Tristan Grimbert said enXco and Xcel Energy announced plans to develop and build the Merricourt Wind Project in November 2008.

He also said the company remain’s dedicated to their contractual obligations with Xcel and would be happy to build this project within the stipulated schedule rather than pursue legal action.
