The One North Carolina Fund awarded a grant to support the new biomass facility, which is expected to be operational by October 2012.
Enviva’s Northampton plant is designed to produce 400,000 metric tons of wood pellets annually.
The facility will join Enviva’s four other wood pellet plants, including one currently completing construction in Ahoskie with production planned to begin this October.
The company said wood pellets from both of its plants will be stored and loaded at Enviva’s deep water port facilities in Chesapeake, Virginia.
