The Green Schools Pilot Initiative, a joint venture between the Ontario Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI), provides funding for the development and demonstration of clean technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of Ontario schools.
As per this project, the EnviroTower program and systems will be installed in 23 schools across six school boards, and applied over a range of cooling tower application sizes from under 100 tons to over 700 tons and for varying supply water qualities.
EnviroTower and the Ontario Centre for Environmental Technology Advancement, an independent third party, will be responsible for the measurement and verification of system performance.
It is estimated that water cooling system accounts for up to 20% of a facility’s electricity consumption and 30% to 40% of water consumption. It is anticipated that the EnviroTower water treatment system, which provides control of scale and corrosion, will reduce this consumption by up to 18%, while eliminating toxic water discharge.
Through this project, EnviroTower expects to make advancements in its technology as it demonstrates the use of its process monitoring system and patented electrostatic water system treatment technology for cooling water application at an enterprise level.
