The Environment Agency (EA) of England and Wales has finally forced the owner of two redundant reservoirs in Wales to have supervising engineers at each dam following non-compliance at one site, Nant-y-Draenog, after a safety prosecution.

A year ago the Agency successfully prosecuted the owner of the reservoirs, Eurolago E Foresta, for contravening the Reservoirs Act 1975. The Agency then appointed supervising engineers to each reservoir but the company did not pay the costs incurred.

The non-payment of the engineers led to a prosecution and fines of approximately US$11,000. The company has now appointed engineers to both sites.

The Agency took over as enforcing authority for the reservoirs in late 2004.
