Italian utility Eni has started production from the Marimba North field, located deepwater at 145km off the coast of Angola.

Eni participates in the project through its subsidiary, Eni Angola, with a 20% stake. Other partners are Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Limited, which operates the project with a 40% interest, BP Exploration Angola Limited (26.67%) and Statoil Angola (13.33%).

The oil start-up from Marimba North field, which holds estimated reserves for 80 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe), will add about 40,000 boe per day of peak production capacity to the existing Block 15 production.

The start of production of this field further strengthens Eni’s position in Angola, where it has been present since 1980 and has an average equity production of some 135,000 boe per day.
