Italian energy giant Eni has announced the beginning of production from the Kizomba C project at the Mondo field, in Block 15, located deepwater at some 145km off the coast of Angola.

Eni said that the Kizomba C project includes the development of the Mondo, Saxi and Batuque fields, located in the Block 15 at a water depth of some 800 meters, through two floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and a total of 36 subsea wells.

Eni stated that the start of production of these fields further strengthens its position in Angola where it has been present since 1980 and has an average equity production of some 135,000 barrels of oil per day (boepd), of which about 55,000boepd comes from Block 15.

Eni has a 20% stake in the project through its subsidiary Eni Angola. The other partners involved are Esso Exploration Angola Block 15 with a 40% operating stake, BP Exploration Angola with 26.67% and StatoilHydro Angola with 13.33%.

The oil start-up from the Mondo field will reportedly add 100,000boepd of peak production capacity to the existing Block 15 production.
