Italian integrated energy major Eni has resumed oil production from the Villano field in Ecuador. Eni is the operator of the field with a 100% share through a service contract.

Production was temporarily suspended on March 28, 2008, due to an act of sabotage in which the main power line that connects to the field installations was burned and rendered inoperable.

Eni noted that the government of Ecuador has been very responsive in providing security that allowed it to safely repair the power line and investigate the incident to ascertain who was responsible. The field produces approximately 28,000 barrels of oil per day.
