The news source reported Mr Scaroni saying that there are opportunities to negotiate new contracts under new legislative framework. He also noted that Eni will initially seek to engage in engineering activities.
Eni noted that Iraq, which reportedly contains the world’s third largest reserves of oil, will be a key resource to meeting the future global energy demand and also help in funding the redevelopment of the country’s war-damaged economy.
Reuters quoted the Iraqi oil minister as saying that there is a lot of interest from foreign oil firms, including energy majors, to participate in the development of the country’s oil fields. But, progress has been reportedly hindered due to an oil law being caught up in the tensions evident in Iraq’s Kurdish region.
