Mr Descalzi, who joined Eni in 1981, held numerous managerial positions in Italy and internationally until his appointment in 2006 as deputy COO of the exploration and production division.
The board of directors, with the approval of the board of statutory auditors, has appointed Mr Bernini as Eni’s CFO, effective August 1, 2008. He will be in charge of the preparation of the company’s accounting documents.
