The well is located about 5km south of Coral 1, 15km from Coral 2, and 65km off the Cabo Delgado coast.
Eni said the Coral 3 delineation well holds 75 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas, of which 27 Tcf is entirely located in Area 4, and the new discovery confirms the presence of hydraulic communication with the same reservoir of Coral 1 and Coral 2.
Coral 3 well, which was drilled in 2,035 meters of water, reached a total depth of 5,270 meters and encountered 117 meters of gas pay in a high quality Eocene reservoir and adds around 4 Tcf of gas in place to Area 4.
The newly found gas also confirmed the vast size of the Coral discovery, which is estimated to include 13 Tcf plus of gas in place, completely located in Area 4.
Prior to commencing exploration drilling in the southern sector of Area 4, the company intends to drill Mamba South 3 delineation well, in order to determine the full potential of the Mamba Complex discoveries.
Eni, as the operator of Area 4, holds 70% participating interest, while the other partners of the joint venture, Galp Energia, KOGAS and ENH hold 10% each.
