The upgrade is a part of EnergyAustralia’s A$405 million five-year investment in the Central Coast region, which also includes building or upgrading 10 substations.

Greg Skinner, EnergyAustralia’s Central Coast regional manager, said that the A$6 million cable project was challenging, with crews constructing one of the company’s longest underground bores on the Central Coast.

Mr Skinner said: The coast has a unique mix of environmental challenges for an electricity network. This project involved both underground and overhead work and the construction of a 460m bore through swampy earth, avoiding damage to a rare, native orchid species that is only found in two places in the world.
