NEW ZEALAND’S ELECTRIC power crisis is now officially over, with recent heavy rain filling reservoirs well into their full supply levels.
Six weeks of unseasonal heavy rain has filled the reservoirs from one end of the country to the other, after a dry winter which depleted water levels to record lows.
In the North Island, Lake Taupo is now 98% full, while the South Island’s supply is overflowing.
Lakes Tekapo and Pukaki, which provide more than half the national storage capacity, are also spilling excess water.
