Australian electricity supplier Energex has announced that its recently completed project will serve more than 20,000 homes and businesses in eight Gold Coast suburbs.

The $6.7 million upgrade involved the installation of a new 60MVA transformer at the Kortum Drive substation, which is designed to cater the current increases in power use, as well as to meet future growth.

The increase in the substation capacity and associated local supply network upgrades will not only improve existing electricity supplies, but will provide Energex technicians more switching options to restore power faster after unexpected damage to the network caused by storms, wild weather, vehicles hitting power poles or underground cables being accidentally damaged.
