Kevin Ball, works group manager of Energex, said that the A$10 million upgrade is on schedule for completion in September 2008, with around half of the project now finished.

Mr Ball said that the increased supply and improved distribution achieved by the upgrade will allow Energex to keep ahead of the expected future growth in power demand.

Mr Ball said: In December a second transformer at the Ipswich South substation was installed and connected to the existing Energex network, which has significantly increased the power supply to more than 6,000 customers in South Ipswich.

Works have commenced this week to upgrade the electricity network so we can effectively distribute this extra power. Two new underground power cables will be installed and some existing overhead powerlines will be upgraded.
