The initial assessment report (IAR) for the Mudgeeraba to Tugun sub-transmission powerline project has been released as the first part of the six-stage community infrastructure designation process under Queensland’s Integrated Planning Act.
The IAR includes detailed analysis on Energex’s proposal to improve electricity supplies in an area where demand for power has been increasing at levels above national averages. The report highlights that electricity demand in the area is currently growing at between 3% and 4% a year, mainly due to new residential and commercial development, as well as the impact of additional consumer appliances, including personal computers, large screen televisions and air conditioning in existing premises.
Areas which would benefit from the proposed upgrade range from Varsity Lakes and Miami in the north, Burleigh Heads and Burleigh Waters, Reedy Creek, Elanora, Currumbin, Palm Beach, Tallebudgera, and Tugun, Bilinga, Kirra and Coolangatta in the south.
