The construction of a new 33,000 volt electricity powerline running from the existing Yatala substation in Pearson Road to Burnside Road at Stayplton is expected to be completed by late March 2008.
Construction of a new A$5.5 million substation on an existing Energex site on Burnside Road will begin at the end of February, with major works expected to be complete by October 2008.
The project will supply power to more than 7,500 homes and businesses in the Gilberton, Jacobs Well, Norwell, Ormeau, Pimpama, Stapylton, Woongoolba, Yatala and Luscombe areas of Queensland, Australia.
Kevin Ball, works group manager of Energex, said: This project almost triples the capacity of the existing power infrastructure, which is essential to ensure Energex can meet the growing demand for electricity in the Gold Coast’s northern suburbs now and in the future.
The new Stapylton substation and power lines will also give Energex’s technical staff more options to restore power faster if the network is damaged by severe weather or third-party damage to equipment.
