Energex stated that more than A$14.5 million is being spent on a new series of underground cables set to bolster the power supply to suburbs including Moorooka, Yeronga, Tennyson, Dutton Park, Yeerongpilly, Annerley, Fairfield, Tarragindi and Greenslopes.
High voltage cable will reportedly be laid to interconnect the company’s Tennyson, Moorooka and Annerley substations. Directly linking each of these substations via new 33,000V dual circuit cables is expected to provide a much more reliable and robust power supply while also increasing the capacity of the local network allowing for current and future growth in the inner southern suburbs.
Work on the project is due to commence in April 2008 with the upgrades expected to be completed by late September 2008. Energex noted that it will try to minimize disruption to residents, motorists and pedestrians, while it is expected that power interruptions will not be required.
