Work, which includes drilling under the Logan Motorway, is expected to be completed by June 2008.
Kevin Ball, works group manager of Energex, said that the upgrade was among a number of electricity supply improvements in the area carried out by Energex in recent years to meet the growing demand for power.
Mr Ball said that homes and businesses in the areas of Forest Lake, Heathwood, Doolandella, Pallara, Willawong, Larapinta, Forestdale and Ellen Grove would benefit from the project.
He said: The project involves the doubling of available electricity capacity at Energex’s Heathwood substation in Stradbroke Street as well as the installation of three new underground power cables to meet the needs of the growing residential and business community.
