Energex is investing $A13m ($13.3m) for the upgrade work which commenced in January this year.

The project is part of an $A5bn ($5.1bn) capital expenditure program undertaken by Energex to be implemented over the next five years.

The company is planning to invest around $A1.02bn ($1.05bn) on upgrades to its electricity network, while a further $A342m ($352m) has allocated to maintain and operate the network.

The current project will involve upgrading the Noosaville Substation to double its capacity.

New underground power cables and associated electrical equipment will be installed, using underground boring, in Noosa Heads on Upper Hastings Street, Allambi Rise, Little Cove Road and Pandanus Street.

The overhead power lines will be removed to improve the visual amenity of the surrounding area.

The additional capacity will accommodate current and future power usage in Noosaville and surrounding areas, according to trenchless-australasia.com.
